Staying positive even when everything goes wrong (and you just want to scream into your pillow)

There’s a universal truth that no one teaches us in school: sooner or later, something will go wrong. And we’re not talking about forgetting your card PIN or burning your tongue with boiling hot coffee (although, let’s face it, those are signs from the universe). No, we’re talking about those really tough times, when life seems like a dramatic movie but without a motivational soundtrack.
So, what do you do? You stay positive. Yes, right when your desire to smile is only equal to your phone battery: 1%.
Staying positive doesn’t mean ignoring reality or turning into the annoying cousin who says “come on, look on the bright side!” while you’re sinking like the Titanic. Instead, it means consciously choosing not to sink with style.
Being positive is the art of looking disaster in the face, shrugging your shoulders and thinking, “Okay, but at least my jeans fit me today.” It's resilience with a little sarcasm on top.
Let's take ourselves seriously, but not too seriously. Irony is the vitamin C of the mind: it doesn't cure everything, but it helps you avoid getting chronic whining. It's the superpower that allows you to laugh at your dramas before they laugh at you.
Have you lost your job? Maybe it's the perfect time to start your own vegan cookie startup (that no one asked you to, but oh, who knows?). Has your partner left you? At least now you can take up the whole bed and watch TV series without negotiations.
If you really feel down, surround yourself with people who make you laugh even when you're in pieces. Those who, instead of giving you motivational phrases copied from Pinterest, offer you a beer, an unfortunate joke and a hug.
And remember: you don't have to shine every day. Sometimes, surviving with a crooked smile is already a great act of courage.
Being positive in difficult times is a bit like putting on mascara in the rain: you might look like a panda, but at least you tried with style.
So, if today everything goes badly… take a breath, laugh (maybe bitterly), and start again. Tomorrow is another day. And if it gets worse, at least you'll have a new story to tell. With irony, of course.
